The stiles

Not counted. The council says many of the paths have steps; this line has not been walked for the site.

Livestock

None mentioned by the council.

The ground

'Many of the footpaths have lots of steps and are on steep slopes,' the council says, with a surfaced path from the car park up to the cliff top. Chalk cliffs along the seaward side: keep well back from the edge.

For dogs

'Walking and Dog Walking is permitted' on the reserve, which Lewes District Council owns and manages. All its footpaths are permissive. Keep dogs well back from the cliff edge.

The route

Start Castle Hill car park, Fort Road, Newhaven (BN9 9DS)

The line is on our map. It goes from the car park on Fort Road past the fort's west side, out along the Cliff Top Walk to the end of the reserve, and back by the inland path. The distance is the length of that line, and the time is an estimate allowing for the steps. Neither has been paced out on the ground.

Lewes Dogs. The rules are Lewes District Council's · Rules from Lewes District Council's Castle Hill page (read from search extracts, 27 Oct 2026; the page itself refused automated reading). The line from OpenStreetMap, read 27 Oct 2026.
