Accessibility
Dog owners come in every shape, and so do their phones. We want every part of Lewes Dogs to work whether you use a keyboard, a screen reader, a magnified screen or a phone in one hand and a lead in the other. Our aim is the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.
What we do
- Every photo has a description, written by us when it goes up.
- Everything works with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring, and the forms say what's wrong in words, next to the field.
- Text and buttons are checked for contrast in both the day and the night look. Night mode is a button in the header.
- Moving things (the seasonal snow, the confetti, the hover effects) stop if your device asks for less motion, and the seasonal look can be turned off altogether from its button in the corner.
- We test on phones as narrow as 360 pixels, and with the text made larger.
- Venue pages say what we know about steps, ramps and accessible toilets, with the source, where we've found it.
What isn't right yet
- The map is a picture of where things are. Everything on it is also on the list of places and the walks, which work with a screen reader.
- We haven't yet tested the whole site with a screen reader from start to finish.
- Some pages link to other sites (a pub's own page, a walk's publisher) that we don't control.
