Terms of use
Lewes Dogs is a hobby, run in Lewes by David Osborne, with Cleo and Bonnie. It makes no money and nobody pays to be on it. These are the few things worth saying about using it, and about what you send us. Questions: hello@lewesdogs.co.uk.
What's on the site
- Every place, rule and date here comes from a visit, the place itself, or a source we name, with the date we read it. Rules change, places open and close, and a landlord can say no on a busy night. Before you set off with your dog, a quick call or a look at the place's own page is never wasted.
- "Checked by Cleo & Bonnie" means we checked it ourselves, on the date shown. Everything else is what we found or were told, and says so. How we check has the detail, and Reviews and what you send explains visitors' reports.
- The dog forecast, the tides, the water quality and the walks are guides, from the sources each one names. They aren't safety advice. On the Downs and the beaches, your eyes and the signs on the day come first.
You and your dog
- Your dog is yours to look after: leads where the rules or the livestock say so, water and shade on hot days, and clearing up after them.
- We can't answer for what a place, a field owner or another visitor does, or for anything that happens on a visit or a walk we've listed. Nothing here limits anything the law doesn't let us limit, such as harm caused by our own carelessness.
Lost and found dogs
- We put up alerts that owners and finders send, and pass sightings on to them. We can't check who owns a dog. If you meet someone about one, meet somewhere public, and ask for something that shows the dog is theirs, such as its microchip details or photos.
- A stray dog should also be reported to Lewes District Council's dog warden, and a stolen one to the police on 101.
What you send us
- Your photo stays yours. By sending it, you let us show it on lewesdogs.co.uk and in things that point to the site, such as the weekly email, for free, for as long as it's up. If you ticked the box for Instagram, we may post it on @lewesdogs too.
- Send only photos you took, or that the person who took them is happy for you to send, and only with the yes of anyone in them (a parent's yes for children).
- Send reports only of places you've really been to, in your own words. No reports about your own business, or written for a reward. Reviews and what you send says how we read them.
- Nothing unkind about people, nothing that isn't true, and no adverts. We read everything before it goes up, and leave out what doesn't fit.
- Change your mind at any time: email hello@lewesdogs.co.uk and we take it down, from the site and from @lewesdogs, within a few days. We can't call back copies other people have already made.
Asking us to change or take something down
- Something you sent (a photo, a report, an alert): email hello@lewesdogs.co.uk from the address you sent it from, or tell us what you sent and roughly when. It comes down within a few days.
- A place you run: tell us through Update your listing or by email. To be sure it's really you, we reply to the email address or phone number on the place's own website or its own social media page, and act once you answer there. We correct anything wrong within a week. If you'd rather not be listed at all, we'll normally take the page down; a private home, such as a holiday let, always comes down on request.
- Something about you in a photo or on a page: tell us, and it comes down while we look into it.
Our words and pictures
- Share any page you like, as a link. The writing, Cleo and Bonnie's drawings and our own photos are ours: ask before using them anywhere else.
- Venues may use their own listing's words and their Checked date to say they're on Lewes Dogs.
- Maps, readings and other data belong to the people we credit on How we check, under their own licences.
Links, and changes to these terms
- We link to other sites (a pub's own page, a walk's publisher, Google Maps). They're theirs, and their terms apply there.
- If these terms change, the date below changes with them. These terms are under the law of England and Wales.
Last changed 6 October 2026.
