Hello from the sticker at A cosy pub walk: Cliffe and Eastgate. Here's what we know, for you and your dog. More dog-friendly places nearby
Cleo & Bonnie haven't logged this one yet. The line is ours, drawn on OpenStreetMap streets between the pubs. The pubs are ones we've checked for dogs, but nobody from the project has walked this route yet.
By train
Up to two dogs travel free with each passenger. Dogs stay on a lead on the train and at the station, and never on the seats.
National Rail Conditions of Travel, condition 24 (valid from 30 July 2026); National Rail's station pages.
Parking
Lewes station's car park (APCOA, Station Street, BN7 2UP): £4.00 for an hour, £9.40 all day on weekdays, £8.30 all day at weekends, Sundays included, and £2.50 from 5pm, each plus a 15p fee. Pay with the APCOA Connect app (code 1207) or the QR code on the signs. The entrance takes vehicles up to 2 m high. From APCOA, Lewes station, undated, read 2 Oct 2026.
The council has car parks across the town too. We couldn't read their prices, so check the council's own list before you go. From Lewes District Council, 2026 car park charges (PDF), 2026, read 2 Oct 2026.
The stiles
A street route, so none are expected, but this line has not been walked for the site and there is no count.
The ground
Streets and pavements, flat once you are across Cliffe Bridge: on the map's elevation data the line climbs about 40 metres in all. Our sheet says the Gardener's Arms is not step-free and the Dorset is. Kerbs, narrow pavements and crossings have not been checked on the ground.
For dogs
Six places we've checked for dogs, each linked with what we know. The John Harvey Tavern is the one with limits: downstairs only, and on a lead at all times. At the Snowdrop Inn dogs are welcome everywhere. You don't need all six, and nothing here asks you to drink: pick two or three, and stay as long as the dog likes. Check on the day: rules and opening times change. The district's fouling order applies: pick up on land open to the public.

Mud, animals, how busy: a few taps. The answers (never your words or name) show here for three weeks, to help the next walker.
The route
Start Lewes station
The line is on our map. It goes from the station by Friars Walk to Market Street and Eastgate, over Cliffe Bridge, along Cliffe High Street to the Dorset and the Snowdrop Inn, and returns the same way. The distance is the length of that line, and the time is an estimate for an easy stroll, without the stops. Neither has been paced out on the ground.
